Too many Indigenous communities and people around the world have not yet received the appropriate apologies, reparations, restitution or land restitution they deserve.

In many places, they are still discriminated against socially and structurally. Deprived not only of their land and their environment, but far too often also of their language and culture, many of them are fighting for their rights. In main stream societies, dressing up as Native Americans is still commonplace at carnivals, festivals and parties. This practice usually reproduces unreflected stereotypes and is a form of cultural appropriation. Rarely have the wearers of these costumes seriously considered the concerns and values of Indigenous people.

For this reason, the use of clothing worn by Indigenous people as costumes has been widely criticized. With the help of depictions of real, painful events in the history of Indigenous societies and the underlining of discriminatory continuities, we would like to deal with the rights of Indigenous people at first hand during this themed evening. The aim is to promote a sensitized approach towards them and solidarity with them.

In the first part of the themed evening, Red Haircrow, African-American and Native-American writer, psychologist, educator and filmmaker, will give a Global Space Talk on the topic.
